The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for the proper functioning of all quality-related activities in a manner consistent with the processes, rules and policies established by Bradford & Bigelow and in conjunction with our ISO 9001 Quality Control System.
This will include daily inspection of production output in the Offset and Digital pressrooms, Bindery, and Shipping areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Thoroughly and critically inspects work samples from all departments for overall quality and compliance with work order details; keep records of inspection results.
Takes full responsibility for the calibration of sensitive measuring equipment, including scales, densitometers, and spectrophotometers.
Updates and maintains calibration logs.
Participates in root cause analyses of non-conformances along with VP of Quality Control and department managers as necessary.
Performs page pull tests on PUR-glued books after glue has cured.
Fill out Page Pull Checklist and report results to Bindery Manager or Shipping Department to release jobs for shipment.
Assists in annual ISO internal, re-certification and surveillance audits.
o Monitors operations to ensure they meet production standards.
Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESPrinting Industry Experience Required o In-depth knowledge of offset and digital printing, book binding techniques.
o Demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving, taking initiative when appropriate.
o Demonstrate the ability and willingness to instruct and train department staff, in conjunction with the department manager, in the best performance of their duties.
o Encourage department staff to demonstrate e positive and constructive approach to their duties.
o Strong communication and organizational skills.
o Be able to work overtime, when necessary, especially when critical projects require quality verification before being shipped.
Technical Skills Required o Critical attention to detail and ability to recognize manufacturing defects.
o Ability to operate densitometers, scales, and other measuring equipment.
o Previous experience in a printing environment is preferred, specifically knowledge of web and sheetfed presses and bindery equipment.
EDUCATION:
Required:
Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred:
Associate degree, Bachelor's Degree, or similar equivalent work experience in the printing industry.
Compensation details:
